Common questions
How many tiles come in a box?
It depends on the size: 2 × 2 ft tiles are usually 4 per box (16 sq ft), 1 × 2 ft tiles 6 to 8 per box, and 1 × 1 ft tiles 10 to 12. The number is printed on the box, so enter it above and the calculator gives boxes as well as tiles.
How much wastage should I allow?
7% for straight laying in square rooms, 10% for rooms with many corners or pillars, and 12–15% for diagonal patterns or large-format tiles that need cutting. Buy the whole quantity from one batch — a later batch will be a different shade.
Should I price per square foot or per box?
Shops in Pakistan quote both. Per sq ft is easier to compare between brands; per box is what you will pay at the counter. Either way the calculator applies your wastage before costing.
What goes under the tiles?
A 1 in bed of 1 : 4 cement–sand mortar with a cement slurry on the back of each tile for floors; tile adhesive on a rough plaster coat for walls and for porcelain. Bathroom floors need waterproofing and a 24-hour water test before the bed goes down — see the guide.
