For one wall or the total running length of all walls at the same height. Choose the wall unit: standard 9 × 4.5 × 3 in bricks, 6 in or 8 in concrete blocks, or AAC (lightweight) blocks. Doors and windows are deducted.
Common questions
How many bricks per square foot of wall?
About 10 for a 9 in wall and 5 for a 4.5 in wall, counting the mortar joints — that is 13.5 bricks per cubic foot, the figure most Pakistani sites use. Awwal (first class) bricks are straight, well burnt, and ring when struck together.
Bricks, concrete blocks or AAC blocks?
Bricks are the local default: cheap, heavy, good for 9 in outside walls, and every mistri knows them. Concrete blocks go up faster and use less mortar but need good plaster and a lintel band. AAC blocks are light, insulate well and are laid with thin adhesive instead of sand mortar, but need special fixings for wardrobes and geysers and a mistri who has used them before.
How much mortar does brickwork use?
Roughly 2 cu ft of wet mortar per 100 bricks with 3/8 in joints — about 1 bag of cement per 15–20 cu ft of 9 in wall at 1 : 4. The calculator uses the mix you choose.
